Hello, sorry I am posting in English as I live in Swansea, Wales. I don't speak Spanish but am a big fan of South American club football. I really enjoy watching the Uruguayan Primera and I think it's great that Montevideo has so many clubs. Penarol are a great club and I joined here hoping to speak to people from Montevideo who also speak English to talk Penarol and also Uruguayan Primera.

Sorry, I've only just seen this post - I have followed Uruguayan football for about two years. Penarol are the biggest club and easiest to follow. They seem to get the most coverage etc. My nickname is Colorado because of Internacional in Rio Grande do Sul - I love Brazilian football and Inter, which led to my interest in the Uruguayan Primera.

Colorado thanks for taking your time to reply and explain, I hope I did not offend you with my questions but it is like Juanle said in another post, I was just trying to make sure that you are legit and not a nacional fan trying to be a smart ass, and now that all makes more sense I want to welcome you into the forum.

Es raro que le guste el futbol uruguayo. Lo que a nosotros nos parece un problema, el futbol centralizado y desprolijo que tenemos   el lo ve algo pintoresco.Bueno, el mismo dice si no entendí mal que tiene para ver los partidos de la premier que juega el Swansea a 5 minutos de la casa. Pero prefiere seguir la liga mas chica que se juega en gales. Sobre gustos no hay nada escrito. Es un caso parecido a el que es hincha de la seleccion que vive en las islas feroe. Si le gusta nuestro futbol tenemos que darle para adelante, no ser urugayitos amagados y deprimidos. Eso si, hay que dejarle en claro que en Uruguay manda Peñarol

Yo tengo 2 csos cercanos para contar.
Mi mujer: Adora la cancha de Rampla. Cuando yo estaba en Montevideo y hablabamos por msn o skype a cada rato me pasaba una foto toda maravillada, y cuando llegué acá me encontré con que guardó las "mejores" fotos de la cancha en una carpeta con otros lugares del Uruguay que también le gustan.
Claro que dice que quedaría mas lindo si estuviera mas cuidada y con una tribuna en lo que sería la Amsteram, y no ese tarreno baldío que asqueroso que está al lado jaja.

Mi suegro: Cada vez que estoy mirando un partido y él se queda a mi lado viendo un rato y queda bastante copado. Obvio que cuando jugamos con los suplentes en Florida contra El Tanque me dijo "Hoy no es un buen día para el fútbol  :D". Pero por ejemplo me acuerdo de partidos en que estaba re copado y me decía "Hay mas espacios y mas voluntad para jugar, acá el equipo grande tiene la pelota y el equipo chico está siempre metido atrás a ver cuanto aguanta".

Ver para creer jaja.
Ojalá algún día rajemos a Casal y la AUF se ponga las pilas...

P.D: Otra de las cosas que maravilla a mi suegro es que el chico salga a jugarle al grande. "El fútbol es mas lindo cuando el equipo chico le falta el respeto al grande".
Igual, yo debería decirle que ultimamente Peñarol no le impone respeto ni al Sacachispas FC

Why wasn't there any Primera Division games last weekend?

Also, it must be possible for football fans in Montevideo to attend several Primera games on the same weekend as the clubs are so close together?! If I had the money to travel, I would love to come and watch some of the different teams there.

How safe is it attending matches in Montevideo? I can imagine some of the big Penarol games can be dangerous perhaps, but is there trouble at the smaller stadiums like Racing, El Tanque, Defensor etc?

Welcome to the forum mate. There was no games last weekend due to national elections. It's pretty safe, since teams do not have a big fan base, the chances of something happening are very slim. Of course, it all depends on which team you decide to go see. I suggest you avoid attending any Cerro or Rampla games, they are located in the Cerro neighborhood which has some dangerous parts, very much like a slum. Plus both teams suck, big time haha

Lo pusó él, e igualmente estoy de acuerdo. Peñarol es un nombre propio, no un sustantivo que cambia su forma de escribir de un idioma a otro...

Por darte un ejemplo, por más que lo escribamos al apellido Gotze, es Götze, con los dos puntitos.
