Peñarol is the only team in Uruguay, Matt.

We have more fans, more cups and more years than the sum of all the others teams.

Hello, sorry I am posting in English as I live in Swansea, Wales. I don't speak Spanish but am a big fan of South American club football. I really enjoy watching the Uruguayan Primera and I think it's great that Montevideo has so many clubs. Penarol are a great club and I joined here hoping to speak to people from Montevideo who also speak English to talk Penarol and also Uruguayan Primera. ;)

Thanks for reading!

Matt
How long are you a follower of Uruguayan football and particularly of Penarol?
Where do you watch the Uruguayan leage?
Why did you choose Colorado as your nick and why in Spanish?

Thank you for the replies. I have been a big fan of South American football for several years. Although I have never been to South America I try and follow all the leagues. I follow the Brazilian league quite closely and support Internacional, I learnt about the Gaucho culture and some Colorados even sent me yerba mate to make chimarrao, which is unknown here in Wales.

Because of the Gauchos, I took a special interest into football in Uruguay and the more I learnt about the clubs, the more interested I became. I follow the AUF YouTube channel so am able to watch games and some Primera matches are shown live on betting websites here.

I love some of the stadiums you have there, the famous old Centenario stadium and even the small stadium that Fenix play in, so close to the sea!

It is also fascinating to learn that one neighbourhood there even has 3 clubs - River, Wanders and I forget the other one.

About me, my local team is Swansea City. I live just five minutes away from the stadium but I like lower-league football and watch the Welsh Premier League with small teams.

The neighbourhood that has River Plate and Wanderers is called " El Prado " , and it also has our country´s most important and traditional farming and cattle ranching exhibition and fair.
That fair is also a landmark for our gaucho culture, with dressage of the horses (gaucho´s style ). There you can learn a lot of chimarrão , or " mate " as we call it in Uruguay and Argentina.
One thing you must know is that in Brazil , everyone who has born in the state of Rio Grande Do Sul (extreme South region - in near Uruguay)  is called "Gaúcho" ( pronounced : Ga Ú Sho // with an accent in the "u") and not always refers to the farmers and ranching people , as it does in Uruguay.
If you love our stadiums today, be prepared to be insanely amazed when our own stadium will be done.
There you will see why we the Peñarol fans are the most crazy and faithful football fans all over the world.
Despite the fact that we have won lots of tournaments, local leagues ( 49 local leagues in fact ), 5 copa libertadores , 3 Team World cup , that make us the greatest team in our country and one of the world´s greatest, we also have been through a lot of shit in the last 15 years. Extremely bad management , poor coach performance and players who hasn´t done too much for the team , all this has resulted in very disappointing years for us.
But instead of that our team always prevailes , and never dies. It gets stronger every day.
I recommend you to watch this 2 documentaries "Manyas - la pelicula" and " 120 "
There you will see more of our essence and what means to be a Peñarol fan.
I think you can find this movies in the web, with english subtitles also.
Have a nice day , cheers !! ;) :yeah:

Sorry, I've only just seen this post - I have followed Uruguayan football for about two years. Penarol are the biggest club and easiest to follow. They seem to get the most coverage etc. My nickname is Colorado because of Internacional in Rio Grande do Sul - I love Brazilian football and Inter, which led to my interest in the Uruguayan Primera.
